Dr. Miriam Erickson is a clinical psychologist who specializes in helping individuals deepen their self-awareness, change behaviors, and improve one’s quality of life. She has broad and comprehensive experience in the field of psychotherapy, and has practiced for over twenty years. She has a particular interest in relationship concerns and helping individuals find meaningfulness in daily living. Dr. Erickson works to unblock communication gaps and expose emotional stumbling blocks in close relationships in order to foster intimacy and self understanding. She sees personal setbacks and emotional struggles as opportunities for renewal and healing. Dr. Erickson builds on personal strengths and is committed to reawakening the growth potential in each person.


Miriam Erickson did her undergraduate studies in philosophy and psychology at University of Puget Sound. She received her master’s degree and doctorate in clinical psychology from Peabody College of Vanderbilt University. Dr. Erickson’s professional training focused on the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental disorders, working with a full spectrum of psychiatric and emotional complaints. Her research focused on eating disorders and other medical concerns which manifest both physical and emotional symptoms. As a psychologist with over twenty years of experience, she has honed and refined her extensive skills in psychotherapy.


In addition to her research and private practice, Dr. Erickson’s professional endeavors include serving as the Director of Counseling services at University of Portland. She also has extensive experience in teaching and student advising, serving on the faculty at University of Portland. Dr. Erickson taught graduate students in the School of Education and is highly familiar with the challenges facing classroom teachers in today’s educational environment. Dr. Erickson’s psychotherapy practice was established in 1988. She works with individuals and couples with a wide range of issues, including depression, stress, and loss. Dr. Erickson specializes in relationship concerns and helping individuals deepen their self-understanding to get more of what they want out of life.
